Giftable Homeschool Supplies for Holidays and Birthdays

I’m sure I’m not the only one who sneaks homeschool supplies into their kids’ gift giving… right? I see it as a way to stretch the holiday/birthday budget by including items that could technically come from our schooling budget. Fortunately, though, there are so many awesome educational items that totally would be welcomed by most homeschoolers anyhow!

PS. The writing in the cover photo is on a Doodle Board, also a fun gift 🙂

Microscope

We have enjoyed a basic 8x, two eye view microscope for many years (pictured above). This school year I upgraded my kids to a more sophisticated microscope (pictured in the cover photo at the top) and it’s been a huge hit! Pair these with some cool prepared slides and a book about microbiology for an awesome theme gift!

Our first favorite microscope for little ones is this one. Our newer one is this one.

I have a post here with more info about the microscope we love and our favorite microbiology picture books.

Owl Pellets

I literally gifted this to my kids and my nephew last year. If you’re unaware, “owl pellet: in ornithology, is the mass of undigested parts of a bird’s food that some bird species occasionally regurgitate.” Yup, I gifted regurgitated owl food, which means lots of cool stuff like bones, since owls swallow their prey whole! My kids were SO HAPPY! You could pair this with a nice magnifier.

Night Sky- Telescope, Puzzle, Projector

Introduce space study casually with a telescope, solar system puzzle (this one from Hape is 102 pieces and includes an LED sun) or this one is 1000 pieces and includes more celestial bodies than just the planets.

My kids have enjoyed their Moon in My Room (to learn moon phases and just for fun) for years now.

And, they’ve also made so many planetarium shows for me using their projector!

Art Supplies

We received a nice quality colored pencil set for Christmas many years ago and they’ve served us so well! We also often sneak in watercolor paper pads (this brand I stock up on when they reach around $5-6, at 140lb the paper is so nice!), a refresh of their twistable crayons, washable tempera paint, and gel pens. The colors of the world crayons are a great idea, too! My kids also go batty over notebooks, so they never mind receiving a nice stack of those courtesy of the Dollar Tree.

Poetry Teatime Supplies

Whether you’ve already instituted Poetry Teatime in your homeschool, or you’ve been thinking about it, this could make such an adorable gift! Put together various teas or cocoas, some ingredients or boxed mixes for treats, and a new poetry volume! If you’re new to teatime, you could select a special mug for each child and consider an electric tea kettle (we LOVE ours!). PS. Here’s my post about how to get started with teatime. And here’s a post of our first favorite poetry books, and our favorite seasonal poetry books.

Nature Study Supplies

Oh now this is a fun category to purchase in! We often add to our nature guides (these are our favorites, waterproof!) as kind of an ongoing gift. Other ideas would be a hiking backpack, nice wool socks for cold days, and binoculars (these were our first favorites, then this step up).
