Simple Pooh Birthday Party {Bookish Birthdays}

I have a proven obsession with creating book themed birthday parties, but this Pooh party was probably the simplest one yet!

[For evidence of this obsession, please see my Magic Tree House, Corduroy, Nutcracker, Gingerbread Man, Fairy Tales/Big Bad Wolf parties!]

For this party, the main “activity” was watching the movie. The kids were hysterical– fits of laughter throughout! I actually took a video of them watching the movie because it was just so heartwarmingly awesome.

I am a very timid baker, but I was able to make an adorable Pooh cake with only moderate levels of stress (which all surrounded color mixing!). The color mixing ratios that I found online called for colors I didn’t have in my basic kit, so I mixed cacao powder with lots of yellow and was able to make a shade that resembled Pooh! Two cupcakes round out the ears, and I decorated some extra cupcakes with a bee-inspired stripe pattern. Easy peasy!

Our favors were sticks of “Hunny” and sticks (pretzels) to build Eeyore’s house. I bought the honey sticks in a big pack (aff) on Amazon and gave each child 5, bundled together in mini rubber bands and tied with twine; the pretzels were from Aldi and in extra cello bags from a previous party. (Side note: those mini rubber bands (aff) are THE BEST. I bought them for my little guy for fine motor practice to sort into silicone cupcake liners(aff), but I’ve ended up using them alll the time.)

The favor tags read:

“Any day spent with you with my favorite day. So, today is my new favorite day.” Thanks for celebrating with us! A little smackeral of something to remember the fun– Hunny sticks and Eeyore’s “house.”

I considered a game but decided on “free play”… however, if you’re looking for a simple idea, how about Find Eeyore’s Tail? You can play it “Find the Thimble” style as we did at our Nutcracker party… everyone leaves the room while the “hider” puts the object in plain sight. When players return, they spot it and then sit down silently!

Have you attended or thrown any book-themed birthday parties?? I would love to hear about it! Connect with me in the comments below or on my Instagram or Facebook accounts.
