Cracking The Nutcracker: What We’re Reading Before We Watch

Confession: I’ve never been to a performance of The Nutcracker! Since Preschool Bookworm is such a fan of the orchestra, I thought we’d give The Nutcracker ballet a shot this year. We’ve been listening to Tchaikovsky’s music, and it’s become…

Our Advent Plans- This Year & Next

Yes, I’m already planning for NEXT Christmas. Well, sorta. What happened was… in researching (er, falling down the rabbit hole) for this year’s Advent/Christmas season, I came across so many wonderful things that a.) overwhelmed me, and b.) my kids…

Christmas Books for a Two Minute Attention Span

Combine my high standards with Toddler Bookworm’s attention span, and you know the books that make our cut are pretty unique! When it comes to holiday books (Christmas or any other), I have little patience for books that seem like…

Books that Hit the High Notes: Instruments & Orchestras

Forget the “Mozart effect.” I’m less concerned about the link between IQ and classical music listening, and more concerned about level of peace in my home! We’ve played classical music for our bookworms since they were itty babies, not in…

Fall Faves: A Short List Slightly Expanded

Now that I’ve been blogging over a year, it’s fun to look back on posts from one year ago and reminisce. Like Timehop, but bookish. We have been enjoying last year’s Fall Faves once again this year, and we’ve come…

Chapter Books to Read Aloud With Young Preschoolers (Really!)

There’s something so satisfying, so sophisticated about reading chapter books with my Preschool Bookworm. Like I’m winning at this parenting thing. (I’ll take a chapter-long victory, smattered between tantrums and doubts about my abilities to raise tiny humans.) I see…

    Homeschool Preschool: Our Plan

To be honest, I am sitting down to write this post with some butterflies in my stomach. This could easily tread into the territory of “Don’t I know what I’m doing? I’m so put together.”  And that is certainly not…

New Sibling, New Problems: Books for Bumps in the New Sibling Road

My sister once gifted me a pillow inscribed with a quote: “I smile because you’re my sister. I laugh because there’s nothing you can do about it.” For real. We fought like CRAZY at certain periods of our growing up…

When I became a sister, I was the happiest girl on the planet! I had begged my parents for a baby pretty much from the time I could talk, and just before my 4th birthday my wish came true! Fast…

Books About Strong Girls that I Read With My Sons

There’s a lot of testosterone in my home, but that doesn’t keep us from reading about strong girls. The books below feature female protagonists who demonstrate courage, intellect, perseverance, wit, and strength! My Preschool Bookworm loves each of these heroines…

Eat These Up! Picture Books for Picky Eaters

As I write this, we are about six weeks into our family’s real food revolution. I’ve taken to heart the advice I’ve read over & over to quit as short order cook, and I’ve stopped buying the packaged snack foods…

A perfect book for patterns! My youngest (3.5) is A perfect book for patterns! My youngest (3.5) is loving this book, and I’m happy that she’s playing with patterns! There are several explored in this short book, with the opportunity to guess the next item in the pattern on the following page.

Our math curriculum works with patterns early on (LOVE @rightstartmathematics ) but we are still just providing some exposure for my little one. We will revisit this one later on, too.

📓We love @rightstartmathematics at this age as it shifts to be student self-study with self assessment baked in. We have used this curriculum from kindergarten and every level has been so good! (Spoken by an English major/librarian/non-mathy person 😅)
📓Excited to add logic to the mix with The Fallacy Detective
